Breakfast Greetings

Written by Knute Ogren on Friday, 12 August 2011

Breakfast_GreetingsBefore each meal, cabin and tent groups line up at the Dining Hall.  It's a good chance for the Unit Leader to make sure all the campers are where they're suppose to be as the counselors head inside to set up the tables.  During the few minutes before walking inside for breakfast, one cabin group had the chance to think about what they love most about Calumet.  It's always great to hear the responses!

A Wide Game

Written by Knute Ogren on Friday, 12 August 2011

A_Wide_GameA wide game at Calumet is when the whole camp gathers together and participates in a bit of a competitive experience.  Everyone arrives to Luther Hall for the nuts and bolts of the game.  Sometimes, groups are asked to wear particular color shirts to help identify the teams.  Sometimes there is a need for the counselor to get dressed up in some kind of crazy outfit.  On one recent event, the wide game had a Men In Black theme.  Check out this clip for a taste of what a wide game at Calumet is all about!!

This is no Mickey Mouse Operation

Written by Knute Ogren on Friday, 12 August 2011

This_is_no_Mickey_Mouse_OperationCalumet is full of standards and operating procedures and disciplines.  It's the very reason we're able to relax and have a great time helping kids think about God, make new friends, and have tons of fun.  There are all kinds of behind the scenes puzzle pieces that make camp run smooth.  Here's a little something to help you understand how complex a simple little change can be!

Meet Board Member Pastor Jeff Stalley

Written by Knute Ogren on Friday, 12 August 2011

Meet_Board_Member_Pr._Jeff_Stalley_0_01_01-29One never knows who will join in on the walk from point A to point B.  Pr. Jeff Stalley from First Lutheran in Ellington, CT happened to be heading in the right direction earlier this week so there was opportunity to "catch up."  It so happens that Pr. Jeff is one of the 18 Chaplains serving at Calumet this summer.  As the Family Camp Chaplain, Pr. Jeff also takes on the role of preacher for Sunday worship.  Calumet benefits so much by the presene and the work of the Chaplains.  Thanks for all of the congregations to encourage their pastor to serve the Church in this important way -- a week at Calumet!

Monday, 12:30 to 12:43

Written by Knute Ogren on Friday, 12 August 2011

Monday_12_30_to_12_43Within a 13 minute stretch of time ... Associate Camp Director Jim Doyle identified an awesome camper creation in front of the office and the Beach BBQ enjoyed a quick little rainfall.  Things to note: Paul Lindahls rain hat, Amanda working through the rain at the lunch table, Mike's confidence level that rain had done what it was going to do, and the shout out to the donut place in East Longmeadow!
