Each day, all the campers and staff gather for Rah Rah Ray -- Theme of the Day! We read a lesson, sing songs, watch a skit, listen to a brief message from the Chaplain, and get the day's theme into our heads. It's a great way to get the day going. Here's a little flavor of what it's all about. Enjoy!!
It's been a great July 4th. Happy Independence Day!! Admittedly, this blogger (Knute) has been a little over the top with regard to Calumet's awesome Camp America counselors (from England). Meet a couple of Calumet's awesome staff who are in the United States for the summer. Meet a couple of girls cabins and hear them talk about how much fun they're having! Puppetude from St. Paul, Torrington, CT is with us all week. It's Drama Camp with the Grays (Calumet alum), which means some of the campers are working lots of hours to get ready for Friday night's big performance. And check out the excited group at Calumet's Day Camp. There is so much going on at camp today. This is what we've been waiting for. The campground is packed to capacity and the big July 4th BBQ is set for suppertime. If you're nearby, come on over. It's a great spread and lots of fun. Ice Cream Social. The Blue Hill Brass. Awesome!!
Bishop Payne was at Calumet for the installations. Karl E. Ogren, Calumet's new Executive Director, was officially installed and prayers were offered. Said Bishop Payne about the word installation, "It makes me think about carpeting, but I don't think you'll let people walk all over you." The gathered people also offered prayers of support as Bishop Payne shared that so many people her age -- "and I'm really old," she said -- can remember an encouraging word, a gracious act, or a kind gesture that their camp counselor offered so many years before ... and how that had stayed with them. "You will be Jesus to those campers this summer." It was a song-filled and spirit led worship service that was held in Luther Hall as the skies had a threatening look to them. In the end, the joy of the morning's worship won the day. Check out a couple of highlights.
