pic july 3This is a pic of two girls who are among the interviewees today. They are having a great time at Calumet. There is so much to do and so much to learn. The kids arrive on Sunday (some are excited, some are anxious, some are pensive, some are geared up for fun) and by this time in the week they have become one with the camp routine, the notion that this is a place where you can be who God made you, and that everything we do here is for the purpose of strengthening and supporting a child's relationship to the world and to God. That means fun, sharing, laughing, singing, learning, trying new things, making new friends, and enjoying the best week of their lives! Boom Chicka Boom!

Calumet, where kids can be kids!

Blog pic 72Camp Calumet is a year-round center which has all sorts of stuff to do for youth groups, families, congregation groups, adults over 50, and on and on. But summertime is about the kids at Resident Camp and the families in the campground having the chance to relax, reflect, and be silly. God is present in the silliness of camp people. Meet a handful of Calumet Resident Campers and see what kinds of things go on each day. The laughter echoes and the smiles are as bright as ever!

Opening Campfire of Summer, 2012

Written by Knute Ogren on Monday, 02 July 2012

71 Blog PicWe know summer has finally arrived when the traditional "Boom Chicka Boom" is yelled out across the waters, meets the hills, and bounces back around the lake. Week One got started off is grand fashion -- Christmas in July in the program theme and. Pr. Jon Hopkins from Concordia Lutheran in Concord is spending the week helping the whole camp think about the work of the Holy Spirit. Suppertime was great with the chicken nuggets and fries getting gobbled up. The Unit Times were awesome with the units challenging one another to Capture the Flag. It's late in the day now, and Calumet is quiet. It's a pleasant night ... not too hot at all. The campers are happy. Summertime -- yes! Click the link below to get a taste of the Opening Campfire.

Music Camp 2011

Written by Knute Ogren on Monday, 29 August 2011

Music_Camp_2011The Music Camp Choir did another wonderful concert on Friday night of Week 8. Each summer the music campers work for 10 hours scattered over the week. They learn new songs (and sing a couple of old favorites), they work together to make beautiful music, and have a GREAT time. This was their fifth summer under the direction of David Piper. Check out a little glimpse of their great work!

Piper's Rap

Written by Knute Ogren on Monday, 29 August 2011

Piper_RapOne of the highlights of Friday of Music Camp is the rap that Piper puts together. He waits until just the right moment before the concert begins and then let's it all out. Sometimes it seems that Piper can do just about ANYTHING!
