Week Four, Tuesday

Written by Knute Ogren on Tuesday, 23 July 2013

potCalumet has a great Resident for Kids! But all one has to do is cross the road in order to find all sorts of great stuff for adults and families. We have 65 sites in the campground for tent and RV camping. Just down the way a bit is the Conference Center which has a variety of rooms, common bathrooms, and the dining room which serves breakfast and dinner (lunch is always at the beach -- Beach BBQ!!). New this year are four "cabins" -- two buildings, each with two units of private bath housing (A/C, mini fridge, coffee maker ...). People love the campground, and going to the beach, and heading to Bible Study, and doing crafts, and playing games, and the Friday Night Ice Cream Social, and the Kids' Fun Time (to give the parents a bit of time to relax) and ... and ...

Here are a few scenes of the Family Campground.

Week Three, Saturday

Medfield GuysOn Saturdays we say good bye to a whole bunch of campers who have just finished the best week of their lives. Week Three is in the books. It was a hot one, for sure, but the kids had such a great time. Here are a few who headed home this morning. We entrust them, and all of the great campers this past week, to God's care -- and hope to see them back on this holy ground next summer!

Week Three, Friday

milk crateYes ... this is a pic of a milk crate. A simple milk crate that was designed and produced to hold cartons of milk which get delivered to Calumet can be creatively used for all sorts of other things related to Calumet's themes. Today, Friday, the theme is "Service" and all the cabin groups are looking at what it means to help another, to work with another for a larger purpose, and to wonder together how we can step outside of our respective comfort zone so that others in need can benefit. Enjoy this Boom Chicka Blog post. And don't be afraid to look at a simple thing and wonder how it can be used to think about a problem in a new way.

Week Three, Tuesday

Boys in BoatingOne of the seven departments on camp is the Boating Department. About 1/7 of the camp believes that the Boating Department is the best department on camp. These campers are among the 1/7 of the camp who are huge fans of Boating. In boating, campers learn how to sail, to paddle a canoe and general boating safety, and to use Funyaks. There's canoe tipping and dock jumping (the fact that the dock jumping dock is in Boating makes dock jumping a Boating activity ... ahem). Meet some great kids who are enjoying Boating during First Period!
