Sunday night I was a able to get a quick view of Units 3 & 4, then Units 1 & 2, and finally Yellows. The first two groups were getting the rules down for the hugely popular Capture the Flag tradition. Our awesome unit leaders make sure the campers all understand how Calumet plays this game, why it's important that we all agree on the rules of the game, and that clear rules allow both for tons of freedom to play the game and result in a wicked fun time for everyone! What ended up being the score? "Fun to Fun." Over in the Woodchips, the Yellows make a huge circle with chairs from the Dining Hall to do some of the most creative counselor introductions. After these Unit Times, the whole camps goes to the lake for an awesome campfire which ends the night.
Sundays at Calumet mean our awesome worships in the ODC. Judy Smith, our Music and Worship Director, goes above and beyond to make each Sunday's music the best it can be for the people who come and share in worship with us. This morning, Judy put together an eight-piece band to preform "Trouble Won't Go," a song Calumet learned a few years ago from the Youth Gathering that takes place in New Orleans:
Girls Cabin 11 ... Unit 4 ... Pizza Night at the Dining Hall. It was very nice to have the opportunity to meet this great group of girls and to find out what kinds of things they enjoyed about this recent week at camp. Their cabin group is made of girls from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Florida. They spent the week together, getting to know one another, trying new things that they wouldn't otherwise get to do, and having a blast with their counselors and their Unit Leader, Ben. It's great to see the laughter and the agreement that Calumet is just the BEST!
Flash Mobs are all the rage these days. Groups of people will break out in a spontaneous dance routine in front of a crowd for fun. Tonight, at second dinner, GC8, led by Anna Donovan and Katie Schmidt, did a flash mob to Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend." The girls all dressed up, put on an impressive dance routine, and the entire dining hall cheered them on. Check it out below:
It's a fantastic day on the shores of Ossipee Lake! The sun is shining, the campers are laughing, and the counselors are getting plans ready to go for this weekends busy schedule. Some of the campers will be going home tomorrow, some are going on daytrips hikes, some are going on backpacking overnights, and some are sticking around camp and making use of this wonderful resource. One of the things that makes Calumet so special is that there is ALWAYS something to do, and there are ALWAYS great counselors around who are helping to make it all happen. Kids love Calumet.
