SEPTEMBER 30- OCTOBER 3, 2018
Sunday afternoon through Wednesday lunch
CHAPLAIN: Pastor Doug Behm
THEME: Discovering Robert Frost
COORDINATOR & SONG LEADER: Judy Hakanson Smith, AIM, Calumet Staff
This year's Fall Flavors Lutherhostel will focus on discovering the great twentieth century poet, Robert Forst. Through poetry and discussion, guests will look at the poems such as The Mending Wall and discover together the richness of Frost's work. A visit to either the Robert Frost Museum called "The Frost Place" in Franconia or a visit to the Robert Frost Farm in Derry will be the field trip.
A special return presentation by Kevin Gardner, New Hampshire Humanities Council presenter, on "Discovering Stone Walls in New England" will be an outstanding evening event.
Lutherhostels at Camp Calumet are popular gatherings for adults over the age of 50. People come from all over New England to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation here in the mountains and lakes of New Hampshire.
A typical day at a Lutherhostel will include morning devotions and singing, a bible or topical study with the guest chaplain, delicious meals in our conference center, and time to enjoy the Calumet property through walks, time on the beach, a ride on a pontoon boat, or sitting on our sunny porch in a comfortable rocking chair. Judy will plan an excursion to explore the beautiful fall colors and flavors of autumn. Apple picking and cider making are optional fall activities too! Of course, there will be Chef Wade's fall flavored pies and apple cider to enjoy. And naturally, a Lutherhostel would not be complete without a good old fashioned hymn sing one evening. Evenings include popcorn and lots of games...bridge, cribbage, dominoes, Skip-Bo have been known to be played in the dining room!!! Recently Parchesi has made a re-appearance too!
