I just love it when Captain Juri Niiler (a member of Emanuel, Manchester, CT), one of Calumet's Pontoon Boat captains, sends me an email with some awesome pics of Lake Ossipee. He snagged these the other day ... campers having a blast sailing on the cool and bright clear waters. Note Mount Chocorua in the background. If you haven't been to Calumet in a while, you're missing out on some seriously beautiful surroundings. Come visit soon. Maybe you can get on one of Captain Juri's cruises!
The Counselors In Training of 2011 have been hard at work -- the whole crew of 'em!! They are part of the traditional story of Calumet trainees. Calumet continually goes above and beyond when it comes to requirements and certifications in all kinds of areas ... and Life Guarding is no different. CITs, dating way back, participate in an LGT program during which a whole slew of them become lifeguards by the end of the summer. The Calumet staff of 2011 has between 50 and 60 lifeguards who are available at a moment's notice to guard at the Family Camping Beach, head out on a canoe trip, or teach swimming lessons to Day Camp. Though we have more guards than we "need" -- as far as for accreditation -- we enjoy the flexibility of offering all kinds of water opportunities for both Family Camping and Resident Camp. Keep the CITs in your prayers this summer -- that they'll train hard, get in good shape, and pass their lifeguarding skills tests. They'll likely be in the chair at FC Beach one of these days when you're in town.
