When I returned home from Calumet last September, after having spent the summer working as Program Director for Resident Camp, I stumbled upon a film series called Fifty People One Question. Each installment of the series takes place in a major US city, asking fifty people one question – Before the end of today, what would you wish to happen? Where would you wish to wake up tomorrow? The goal of the project is to explore human connections through people and place, and the diversity of those asked is seen through their various responses to these questions.
I started thinking how interesting it might be to see how fifty staff members at Calumet might answer if posed the same question, and it resulted in our own little film series for the summer – Fifty Counselors One Question. During staff week, myself and my fellow program directors for the summer (Becca Caterson, Becca Brooks and Mike Harris) walked around camp asking fifty of our staff members the same question – What brought you back to camp this summer? Some of the answers are personal, some are smart, and some are funny. But all of them show a little bit of insight into how diverse our staff is and into the commonalities that keep bringing us all back to work at this place.
So, here it is. I hope you think our staff members are as great as I do.
Probably a lot like where you are, it’s hot up here at Camp Calumet. Wicked hot! And after a wicked good time playing at the Family Camping Beach, Elisabeth can’t do anything but… well… have a look for yourself.
