Christmas Traditions Weekend

Xmas_Trad_2DECEMBER 2nd - 4th, 2011

Weekend Chaplain: Pastor Ed Voosen

Join us the first weekend in December for a weekend filled with your favorite Christmas traditions.  Come up to Calumet to re-connect with old friends and make new ones while doing all the things that get you into that holiday spirit!

The first night you are invited to sing carols & holiday songs, drink cocoa and eat popcorn, drink some Swedish glogg, and play games by the fireplace in the Conference Center Dining Room. Some guests even bring decorations from their own family traditions to share for the weekend’s festivities.

Saturday morning is full of activities such as eating at the delicious breakfast buffet, a visit from Lucia and her court, decorating gingerbread houses, making Korv with an authentic sausage making machine, and making Christmas decorations from around the world!

After lunch guests are free to relax around camp, go shopping in North Conway and at local craft fairs, taking walks, tubing, practicing for the talent show, bidding on the silent auction items or just taking a nap! Then the Swedish Smorgasbord begins the evening fun, especially looking for the almond in the rice pudding, followed by dancing around the Christmas tree. Each year Santa makes a visit to the children just before the annual talent show begins.

There will also be an optional silent auction on Saturday afternoon.  All are welcome to participate either as a donor, a bidder, or both!  Past donations from guests and friends have included knitted mittens, holiday decorations, giftware, cookbooks, paintings, and needlework.  For those of you who might not know what a silent auction is...during the day on Saturday, guests are welcome to bid on various items in writing (numbers are assigned to guests upon arrival so your bidding is anonymous!) Just before dinner, the bell rings, the bidding ceases, and folks are “awarded” their items. Winning bid payments go to the scholarship fund for Camp Calumet. The silent auction is the perfect place to begin your holiday shopping!!!

Sunday morning brings a continental breakfast (in order to save room for brunch!), choir rehearsal, festive Advent Worship, and BRUNCH!!! Of course, the camp store will be open for shopping for that just right Calumet Christmas gift.

Some suggested items to bring for the weekend: musical instruments, Christmas cookies to share, decorations from your own cultures (just to lend), items for the silent auction, a talent to share, and snow pants for the toboggan run!

Children under 6 stay and eat for free!

Adults:  Conference Center - $168; Staff House & Retreat Lodge - $156, Heated Cabin - $138, Day Rate  - $65.
